The Operations division is both the first line of defence for protecting Morgan Stanley's financial and reputational well-being, and an essential partner contributing to the firm's growth.

Facing off to all Morgan Stanley businesses and interacting with all other parts of the Firm, the Operations division supports a complex, multi-faceted portfolio of businesses in full compliance with regulatory guidelines and the directives of the Operating Committee and Board of Directors.

Members of the Operations team have a unique vantage point as the division touches all parts of the business, front to back.

One of the largest divisions in the firm, Operations has diverse responsibilities, including correctly settling and recording millions of transactions per day, identifying and mitigating all operational risks, developing strong client relationships and partnering with technology to realize the full potential of IT and e-solutions.

Team Profile

Frankfurt Trading Operations is the primary point of contact between the MSESE FID Trading desk and Operations. The team works closely with the Business Unit in order to ensure that all trades booked by the trading desk match the details reflected in the market, and liaises with Client Operations and other Trade Support functions to protect the banks trading activities from errors in the booking process.

The team also monitors post trade date activities to ensure that data and bookkeeping related to the trading activity is correctly recorded and delivered into downstream processes such as settlement and transaction reporting.

Primary Responsibilities


  • Deliver performance consistent with agreed personal and business goals in relation to AOR
  • Act in accordance with and promote the Firm's values, culture, ethics and conduct expectations including those listed in the Individual Conduct Rules
  • Maintain standards of technical and / or product knowledge as needed to fulfil the requirements of your role
  • Systems and Controls

  • Identify key risks and / or challenges associated with delivering AOR's objectives. Develop approaches for managing, monitoring and / or mitigating these risks and challenges
  • Understand the relevant systems and controls utilised within AOR (including maintaining relevant knowledge of IT systems).
  • Ensure that such systems and controls are assessed on a periodic basis and enhanced as appropriate

  • Adherence to Morgan Stanley Group's policies and procedures
  • Client and Stakeholder Relationships

  • Establish constructive relationships within the firm (in particular, promoting appropriate interaction within your AOR with relevant Support and Control functions) and facilitate the Business' / Group's efforts to work collaboratively

  • The responsibilities listed are the core responsibilities in relation to this role. From time to time the role holder may be called upon to take on additional responsibilities as required to meet the objectives of their division and of the wider organisation.

    The candidate will be required to perform operational control functions covered by Trading Operations. This is part of a locally based Trading Operations team co-located with other operations teams. They will :

  • Implement and execute the defined control framework for the Trade Support Group function within Trading Operations
  • Act as a point of contact and liaison for the Institutional Sales and Trading Division
  • Point of escalation for internal stakeholders, other control functions and external parties
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of the business
  • Develop a deep knowledge of the products and / or functional area for which they are responsible
  • Partner with Sales and Trading on ad hoc queries and business practices impacting the local entity
  • Participate in risk assessment : risk audits and reviews, deep dives & RCSA?s
  • Risk mitigation and control : incident control, risk training, BCP Planning, desktop procedures
  • Improving the overall control environment by enforcing proactive controls
  • Participate in other firm wide exercises : segregation of duties review, policy review, entitlement control, depth charts, regulatory reporting control assessment program
  • Driving global consistency in process, risk and management tools partnering with global peers
  • Working with external venues, infrastructure providers and clients to ensure that Morgan Stanley operational processes are effective, scalable and controlled
  • Participate in delivery of technology agenda for the supported entities
  • Partner as local SME in strategies for STP improvements to business procedures
