Research Assistant (m / f / d) (Ph.D. student level)

Your responsibilities :
To elucidate the mechanisms of action of Gasdermin proteins during cell death. Gasdermins are the final executors of pyroptosis, a highly inflammatory form of regulated cell death, which has implications in infectious and inflammatory diseases and their clinical outcome.
Gasdermins induce pyroptosis by permeabilising the cell plasma membrane and inducing the release of inflammatory cytokines in the extracellular medium.
In this project the candidate will investigate the mechanism of assembly of Gasdermin pore formation by the use of single molecule fluorescence microscopy and atomic force microscopy.
Purification, labelling and characterization of Gasdermin proteins and mutants.
Reconstitution of Gasdermin proteins in biological membranes.
Application of biophysical, molecular biological, and microscopic methods.
Application and analysis of single molecule and structural techniques.
Collaboration within the Collaborative Research Center 944 Physiology and dynamics of microcompartments .
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work towards a PhD.
Required qualifications :
The candidate must hold an university degree (M.Sc. or diploma) in Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field.
Sound knowledge in biochemical, molecular biological and biophysical methods.
Practical experience in biochemical and molecular biological techniques.
Excellent command in written and spoken English.
Structured working approach and efficient working attitude.
Strong ability at trouble shooting.
The candidate is highly motivated and communicative.
Desirable qualifications :
Knowledge in membrane biophysics and structural biology.
Experience in protein purification.
Basic programming knowledge.
Ability to work in a team and good social skills.
