Team Size : 5-10

As a Senior Backend Engineer at Zalando Payments in Dortmund, you will play a key role in shaping and evolving the core of our offering : The public Payment APIs that we are providing to merchants and which are used by multiple customer facing applications, including the checkout page that you may have already used when you purchased something from Zalando.

You will act like an owner and design, implement, and operate the applications that serve this API and orchestrate the complex payment process supporting over twenty different payment methods, from prepayment and invoice to credit card and direct debit, as well as many European payment methods.

WHERE YOUR EXPERTISE IS NEEDED

Design, develop, and improve resilient and scalable software solutions that are used by millions of customers and which fuel our merchant facing APIs

Solve system design challenges within your team and across team boundaries

Implement and operate your team’s microservices in the production environment on the AWS cloud and identify and solve production issues

Understand business requirements, translate them into solution designs, and support more junior team mates through coaching and code reviews

Support and shape Zalando’s engineering community by sharing best practises and interviewing additional engineering talents

You will join a team that is dedicated to delivering the highest standards when it comes to the quality of your code and implementation.

You will add value by leveraging current trends in software design, architecture and distributed systems.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

7+ years of experience in designing software systems based on JVM programming languages (preferably Java) in the field of e-commerce or FinTech

Understanding of resilience patterns and what means to build distributed systems in an organization at scale; strong track record in microservice architectures and RESTful API design

Practical experience in operating technical software systems based on cloud environments (preferably AWS) including incident management and resolution

Strong communication skills with the ability to support technical decision making by balancing customer impact and technical quality
