Job Summary :

The Embedded Software Engineer will work within the Cardiac Surgery Business Franchise and will support the HW / FW Team on the development of new products.

He / she will work specifically on life-sustaining devices as Heart-Lung Machines on a wide spectrum of tasks during the concept, design and verification phase.

  • The incumbent customizes the Software platform (e.g. Linux) and develops Embedded Software applications that meet all predefined requirements;
  • establishes product requirement specifications in close collaboration with the other stakeholders; defines the Software Architecture considering all constraints coming from legacy products, develops the Software and creates the necessary detailed documentation;
  • defines the Test cases and verifies the SW through up-to-date static / dynamic code analysis tools; contributes to the improvement of SW Development processes.

    Essential Job Functions :

  • Will work mainly on Heart-Lung Machines comprised of electrical, mechanical, electromagnetic, user interfaces and software from both a total system as well as a component perspective.
  • Will work on up-to-date High-safety HMIs interfaced with sensor probes and sensor interfaces as well as actuators.
  • Will be responsible, for the specific sub-system assigned, for the software development and release activities, including design, test, documentation, build management, configuration control.
  • Will define the Software Architecture, considering all constraints coming from legacy products or other sub-systems, and develop necessary libraries, source code, compiled binary code and GUI software elements.
  • Will report / resolve software bugs / issues.
  • Will contribute to the continuous improvement of SW Development processes.

  • Knowledge / Abilities :

  • Strong programming skills in C, C++
  • Strong knowledge of microprocessor based embedded systems, mainly ARM processors.
  • Solid experience with Qt Graphic Framework and developing complex Graphic User Interfaces.
  • Solid experience of Software platform development, such as Embedded Linux and custom builds.
  • Experience with GUI test tools (e.g. Squish) as well as static / dynamic code analysis for SW Unit and SW Integration testing (e.
  • g. VectorCAST and Polyspace).

  • Knowledge of SCM tools as SVN, GIT, JIRA, Eclipse IDE, ClearCase etc.
  • Knowledge and previous experience working with Agile methodologies.
  • Knowledge of Application Lifecycle Management tools as Polarion.
  • Knowledge of EU, US and international medical quality, safety standards (IEC 62304, ISO 14971, ISO 13485).
  • Operation and use of standard test and measuring instruments.
  • Candidates with Bachelors / Masters Degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent are preferred.
