Purpose & Function Description

The overall objective of Corporate Tax is to create value for the global enterprise, business units, and shareholders by maximizing corporate profitability through minimizing overall tax burden while executing and directing compliance to conform with all legal frameworks in preserving the Company’s reputation and integrity.

Overall Relevance for the Organisation

Corporate Tax is responsible E2E to ensure Indirect tax compliance. The Senior Manager Indirect Tax must ensure that all indirect tax law regulations are complied with and that diverse tax filing requirements are executed thoroughly and in-time to avoid serious penalties and tax audit assessments.

The position has to interact with Local Accounting & Controlling at HQ, GBS and world-wide subsidiaries to provide reliable data and align business processes and decisions with legal & fiscal requirements.

To that purpose it is essential to build up tax know-how throughout the organization and to create awareness for aligning business decisions with Tax Compliance in advance as well as maintaining corresponding tax policies and guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

Business Partnering & Communication

  • Partner with business (Accounting, Finance Managers of subsidiaries, Business Units at HQ ) and Senior Management (Corporate Finance, Corporate Tax) within the assigned area of responsibility.
  • Ensure fact based decision by creating transparency on tax implications of business projects
  • Develop and lead adequate communication packages to business partners and Senior Management to reach acceptance of required changes for achieving tax compliance
  • Lead medium sized projects), implement findings and ensure sustainability of achievement
  • Innovation

  • Lead digitalization initiatives for Corporate Tax and preparatory work and ensure sustainability of achievements
  • Lead on the new and improved working methods for relevant processes and systems
  • Strategy

  • Manage on the roll outs of the fully automated compliance process for Indirect Tax
  • Significantly contribute to the achievement of the department strategy
  • Analysis / Reporting

  • Lead the developments and implementation of state-of-the-art analytic reports to ensure data quality and Indirect tax cash management
  • Achieve significant improvements through improved data management and reporting requirements
  • Functional Expertise

  • Develop and maintain relationships across all business functions within adidas to increase understanding and relevance of tax compliance
  • Develop and manage relationships with external consultants and advisors
  • Ensure smooth operation of the business by taking ownership for related actions, e.g. support and manage Tax audit and train business organisation in compliance requirements

    Support negotiation with tax authorities in tax audits

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Proficient knowledge of Tax law including indirect tax and basic international Tax law
  • Comprehensive understanding of business processes and structures
  • High degree of customer orientation to ensure they understand tax requirements and increase willingness to comply with them
  • Positive and energetic personality with strong interpersonal & excellent communication skills for influencing others
  • Ability to maneuver in consistently changing environment with regard to adidas business processes as well as constantly changing tax laws
  • Ability to operate cross-functionally with different HQ departments and world-wide subsidiaries as well as understanding of external business drivers
  • Thorough understanding of the complexity, interactions and dynamics within adidas
  • Experience in Project Management
  • Business fluency in English (written and spoken)
  • Education and Experience

    Knowledge

  • Degree in Business Administration and apprenticeship as tax clerk
  • Very profound knowledge of Indirect TAX and as well a basic knowledge of Corporate Income Tax and International Tax law
  • Experience

  • More than six years of Tax experience
