Job Summary :

This role is accountable for leading the event strategy and the overall delivery of event outcomes for clients at American Express Meetings & Events Germany & Switzerland.

She / He lead cross-functional event teams to deliver on strategic event outcomes through development and implementation of an event strategy and plan while ensuring superior service levels.

This role is accountable and responsible for event strategy, event team execution, oversight of all aspects of event delivery, and financials for assigned teams / clients.

This role is focused to position the American Express Meetings & Events brand and it’s entities (e.g. Banks Sadler) as a creative event agency within both markets (Germany & Switzerland) as well the portfolio of existing clients of GBT.

Responsibilities :

  • Working with Market Head to develop CES business (Customer Event Solutions) within Germany and Switzerland : Bring in new businessDevelop existing client accountsCreate structured plan to align and improve existing client portfolio and new sales with phased prioritiesAttend client reviews and offer key account management to core clientsCreate links with local and EMEA Sales Teams to ensure close alignment and strategy consistencySetting and reviewing policies and procedures and ensuring adherenceProvide regular updates to Market Head on activity, wins, new bids and challenges for support
  • Oversee and manage pitches, proposals and tenders : Identification of CES opportunity market by market to increase penetrationLead the response to RFIs and RFPs and check quality and creativity of all documentation going out of the teams
  • Full commercial responsibility for profitability and growth within the CES segment : managing business budgetGenerating monthly reports / budget updates for the Leadership / Executive TeamContribute to Regional P&L through profitable CES Business and new clientsEnsure control and compliance to financial procedures manage creation of and performance against forecast, validate accuracy of GL activity, ensure proper staffing levels, oversee delivery of billing and receipt of payment
  • Manage, recruit and train the teams : Oversee all day to day general operations of the various office in Germany & SwitzerlandComplete skills assessment per market to identify operational weaknesses and prioritize for improved service capabilitiesIdentify gaps in servicing levels and create action plans eliminate root issues in a timely mannerSupport Cross Border team structures (Germany & Switzerland) with aligned job roles and job descriptionsEnsure recruitment of new resource and skills is aligned with CES business approachCoach and develop employees to improve their skills -
  • Identify areas for specific development and guide team on areas of growth. Provide timely feedbackAct as an information conduit to team by sharing industry knowledge and updatesMonitor and support the highest levels of quality and service delivery for both marketsAdditional duties as requested

    Qualifications, Skills & Knowledge :

  • Language Capabilities : German and English fluent (mother language ideally German), a third language (French) is beneficial
  • Relevant and current experience in the Events or other relevant industry at a Senior level (10 years+)
  • Must have a relevant academic qualification (i.e. Bachelor's Degree in Business)
  • Sound agency experience
  • Proven ability to lead and develop employees - assess employee readiness levels, strengths and development needs as well as provide timely, specific coaching, development and feedback.
  • Proven ability to effectively lead during times of change and change track swiftly as required
  • Experience of managing budgets, as well as handling complex reporting and MI for clients (sound commercial business experience)
  • Drives results by challenging the status quo, championing new initiatives and implementing effective processes
  • Strong client facing and relationship management skills
  • Enthusiastic team player with good communication skills
  • Excellent business development skills and confident in sales presentations and pitches
  • Strategic and analytical thinker, able to provide strategic leadership (against strategic plan)
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze situations, negotiate and make decisions in a fast paced environment.
  • Influence without authority : ability to build strong, open relationships and establish credibility as a trusted advisor and work with multiple teams to accomplish goals and objectives
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employee seniority
  • Flexibility to work out of hours to resolve issues when required
  • Ability to leverage the Global organization and adapt to local requirements and needs
  • The role will involve business travel to other offices and client sites
